{Fresh and Beautiful} Minneapolis, MN Maternity Photographer

“A first child is your own best foot forward, and how you do cheer those little feet as they strike out. You examine every turn of flesh for precocity, and crow it to the world. But the last one: the baby who trails her scent like a flag of surrender through your life when there will be no more coming after--oh, that' s love by a different name.”
― Barbara Kingsolver, The Poisonwood Bible

Congratulations to dear friends on impending welcome of their lovely lady. I am sure she will be as sweet, smart and beautiful as her wonderful mom and family.

{Smile and the world smiles with you} Minneapolis, MN Baby Photograpeher

"A little small talk, a smile and baby I was stuck."
— ABBA

I am grateful to have a job that I love. It is an incredible experience to be invited into people's homes to take pictures of their family and the love they share for each other. Each session is different and each new personality inspires me as a person and artist. This little lady was simply charming. Her smiles, wonder and expressions had me captivated and it was hard to end our time together. It is amazing what a smile can do to you over a course of an hour. You can't help taking a part of it home with you.

{A.M.} St. Louis Park Newborn Photographer

Excuse me while I kiss the sky.
-Jimi Hendrix

Remember this post a few months back...

Since that time, he has decided that it was a good time to be born, much to the delight of mom, dad, big sister and the rest of the family.
At 8 days old I had the pleasure of spending a few morning hours with this family to record the memories of the first weeks of life.
A morning filled with comforting, feedings, love, and anticipation.
and some espresso.
I left as a new set of loving friends arrived to meet the new family member.
Blessed to have a spent a few hours experiencing the newness of life.
Curiously pondering where the journey might take this boy.
A successful businessman and talented musician like dad?
A successful businesswoman and talented artist like mom?
Rocker? President?
What's your guess?

{Sisterhood of the Traveling Sort} Farmington, MN Children Photographer

"Your life is what you see in front of you.

— Amy Tan {The Joy Luck Club}

Following these two sisters around to photograph their story took me back to mine. I have a sister. We are just us and have been close over the years, sharing the special bond and affection two sisters share as girls, friends, teenagers, girlfriends/wives and women.

Speaking to other girlfriends, I appreciate immensely that as women we learn and support each other in a unique way that speaks of the bonds of sisterhood that extends many times beyond shared genetics.

But even more so, as one part of a sister duo, there is rich story that is hard to put into words. Always a gentle grasp around your wrist, holding and supporting through life. For better or worse. Always.

These girls as unique individuals and sisters displayed energy, beauty and the special connection that warms my heart for them, their wonderful family and selfishly, for myself.

Thank you our time for inviting me into your home and sharing your special sisterhood, a brief glimpse for me, but a lifelong journey and connection for you both.

{whole new world} St. Louis Park, MN Child Photographer

"When you are inquisitive, Jane, you always make me smile. You open your eyes like an eager bird, and make every now and then a restless movement, as if answers in speech did not flow fast enough for you, and you wanted to read the tablet of one's heart."
— Charlotte Brontë (Jane Eyre)

If I had to recall one of the sweetest times, as a mother to my own children, it was the age of six to nine months, when absolutely everything is a new discovery and elicits excitement and inquisitiveness that is akin to emotion when one is about to tear open a gigantic birthday present after much anticipation and longing. This is the time where the very sight of loved ones brings joyful expressions, adoration and hugs that are almost explosive. Even if gone only for a second, the moment mom or dad reappear relief, giggles and love abounds.
This small gentleman, at nine months, had exuberance and curiosity flowing from his beautiful blue eyes straight out his cute baby toes that was inspirational, natural and simply a pleasure to capture his story during this special time of life.
