If you want what visible reality
can give, you're an employee.
If you want the unseen world,
you're not living your truth.
Both wishes are foolish,
but you'll be forgiven for forgetting
that what you really want is
love's confusing joy.

{Pressing Against Anything}

Making Love To Concrete
 An upright abutment in the mouth of the Willis Avenue bridge a beige Honda leaps the divider like a steel gazelle inescapable sleek leather boots on the pavement rat-a-tat-tat best intentions going down for the third time stuck in the particular
 You cannot make love to concrete if you care about being non-essential wrong or worn thin if you fear ever becoming diamonds or lard you cannot make love to concrete if you cannot pretend concrete needs your loving
 To make love to concrete you need an indelible feather white dresses before you are ten a confirmation lace veil milk-large bones and air raid drills in your nightmares no stars till you go to the country and one summer when you are twelve Con Edison pulls the plug on the street-corner moons
 Walpurgisnacht and there are sudden new lights in the sky stone chips that forget you need to become a light rope a hammer a repeatable bridge garden-fresh broccoli two dozen dropped eggs and a hint of you caught up between my fingers the lesson of a wooden beam propped up on barrels across a mined terrain between forgiving too easily and never giving at all.

{Thoughts...Thoughts...}

“For those who believe in God, most of the big questions are answered. But for those of us who can't readily accept the God formula, the big answers don't remain stone-written. We adjust to new conditions and discoveries. We are pliable. Love need not be a command nor faith a dictum. I am my own god. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.” ― Charles Bukowski Untitled-1

{Little Shop of Horrors} St. Peter, MN Lifestyle Photography

Gee, I wish you folks could see this. Hey Seymour, where did you get this WEEEEEEEEEEIRD plant? -Little Shop of Horrors Thor1 thor2 I had a chance to check out Perry (not Thor as I misnamed it earlier) the Third at the campus of Gustavus Adolphus on Friday night. Thor is a stinky plant that blooms when it wants to. I dig that attitude with plants or people. The trip to St. Peter was beautiful and reminded me of my many many trips through the quaint town when I was in grad school...some time ago. I stopped there on and off but finally got to spend the evening in a sweet town full of nice folks and fun. If you have time for the drive, I highly recommend. Whether you see Thor (stinky stinky Thor) or just jaunting through Southern Minnesota.

{Spirit Storm}

When your eyes are tired the world is tired also.
When your vision has gone no part of the world can find you.

Time to go into the dark where the night has eyes to recognize its own.
There you can be sure you are not beyond love.

The dark will be your womb tonight.
The night will give you a horizon further than you can see.
You must learn one thing: the world was made to be free in.

Give up all the other worlds except the one to which you belong.
Sometimes it takes darkness and the sweet confinement of your aloneness
 to learn

 anything or anyone that does not bring you alive
 is too small for you.

 Sweet Darkness -David Whyte

Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming. What do we do? We swim, swim.  -Dory {Finding Nemo}

IMG_6253 Love this guy so much. He teaches me so much. I'm very proud of his courage and passion for the pool. Last summer he wouldn't leave the steps. He watched his sister from the shallow end. Throughout the year he taught himself to swim when I couldn't get him into swim lessons. Practice, patience, practice and by the end of this summer...And with help from an awesome swim instructor he has become my Little Nemo!

{Hear This}

"Somewhere along the way, someone is going to tell you, 'There is no "I" in team.' What you should tell them is, 'Maybe not. But there is an "I" in independence, individuality and integrity.'" Avoid teams at all cost. Keep your circle small. Never join a group that has a name. If they say, "We're the So-and-Sos," take a walk. And if, somehow, you must join, if it's unavoidable, such as a union or a trade association, go ahead and join. But don't participate; it will be your death. And if they tell you you're not a team player, congratulate them on being observant.” ― George Carlin IMG_2260 Words for my little peeps as they start another school year...

{Wishes for You)

“There is a place where the sidewalk ends And before the street begins, And there the grass grows soft and white, And there the sun burns crimson bright, And there the moon-bird rests from his flight To cool in the peppermint wind. Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black And the dark street winds and bends. Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow, And watch where the chalk-white arrows go To the place where the sidewalk ends. Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow, And we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go, For the children, they mark, and the children, they know The place where the sidewalk ends.” ― Shel Silverstein, Where the Sidewalk Ends sidewalkendsweb

{Drops of Jupiter}

“The truly creative mind in any field is no more than this: A human creature born abnormally, inhumanly sensitive. To them... a touch is a blow, a sound is a noise, a misfortune is a tragedy, a joy is an ecstasy, a friend is a lover, a lover is a god, and failure is death. Add to this cruelly delicate organism the overpowering necessity to create, create, create -- so that without the creating of music or poetry or books or buildings or something of meaning, their very breath is cut off... Thet must create, must pour out creation. By some strange, unknown, inward urgency they is not really alive unless they are creating.” ― Pearl S. Buck create
